Susumu Hirasawa's Back Space Pass on Dasshutsu-kei Ashu-On concert (Fuji Rock Festival 2021)(Streamed and posted on September 26, 2021) (Translation in English) Part 2

16. Souvenir songs: "Holland Element" and "Solid Air - Totsu-gen-hen-i(Heavy String) Ver."
Well, what time is it now? Well, it's still okay. Next, well, well, even in 2019, the audience who were not really festival lovers came a long way to see my show at Fuji Rock. For the customers who come far to see me, something like souvenir songs were prepared. One of them was "Holland Element". In addition to Holland Element, as a song that has a close feeling to it, I performed the Totsu-gen-hen-i[heavy string] version of "Solid Air" that I hadn't done for a while.
[44:14]
17. Warning about cover songs by ear by fans such as Holland Element before official lyrics is disclosed
So, for Holland Element, I have added the parts that did not exist in the original song, the original version. The new lyrics are added to it, but as I had expected, before the official lyrics is released, someone did a copy by ear cover as if saying, "I know the lyrics!", on a video site, saying "Copy by ear", I remember. There are people who have posted such recordings, well, I will refrain from commenting on that [Note: He meant that he would not discuss about copy right violation tonight], but unfortunately the lyrics are wrong. It is not desirable that the lyrics are different from my original song because it will be transmitted incorrectly. For example, different melody or slightly different musical phrases do not destroy the overall appearance of the song, but if the lyrics are wrong, the world that represents will be different. And I don't want to be misunderstood as "Does Hirasawa use such words? Does he say that here?" So, I would like you to stop posting such videos before the correct lyrics is disclosed. This is a part of the series of my requests: "What I want you to stop posting on video sites". [Note: He has posted a request on Twitter to delete the meme videos with bad tastes using his songs and image that are humiliating and insulting to him a few days before this talk show.]

18. About noise troubles during live performances
So, unfortunately, at the time of this Holland Element song and then Solid Air were performed, I had prepared a kind of violent performance called, a so-called, Destroy Guitar, but unfortunately I could not do it due to the noise trouble that happened. So, the trouble was that the sound of the guitar, something like terrifying noise from the guitar was left out, and I couldn't stop it. So, the Roadie [Note: Mr. Matsumura, the roadie and stage director] came to the stage and searched for what was the cause, but he could not find out. Anyway, with that terrifying noise still coming out, I first searched for the cause [while singing], and then I thought it may be due to the guitar, so while searching for the cause and while switching the guitars and so on, the part of the song for the Destroy Guitar was over. The time for the guitar solo part with "Destroy" performance passed, which I regret.
[47:04]
Later, in order to investigate the cause, Mr. Matsumura checked various equipment around my guitars, but I realized what it was before he came to a conclusion. The cause was me. What was it? I usually make various sounds with the effectors of the guitar, but when making those sounds, to avoid trouble, I make the sounds that have already been prepared from scratches, and I adjust them. It's like making that one this and replacing this one with that, and so on. At that time, I forgot to remove unnecessary effect. That effector, the effector I'm using now, has a pedal, which usually acts as a volume to increase or decrease the level. So, during the live show, I stepped on it to make the volume louder, definitely louder. So, I completely forgot it, but this pedal can be switched on one step further by stepping on it. At this time, the effect was added to the effector to make the scary, amplified, huge noise.
[48:49]
I forgot to remove this, and the cause was that this switch was pressed and a big noise like "wham!" was made, and when I discovered the cause, I said to Mr. Matsumura, "I'm sorry. I am the one to be blamed. In your experiment, the same thing can be reproduced if you do it exactly like this, so could you confirm it?" As a result, it was exactly right, and the bad guy was Hirasawa. So, I would like to apologize to everyone here. I, Hirasawa, made a mistake of a lifetime without knowing. I'm sorry.
[49:33]
(Hirasawa raises his right hand and makes an apology gesture)
So, it should be okay from the next time.

19. Vintage Hirasawa: A plan to show off an action that incorporates stage actions from 1981 to 1984.
By the way, in this show, the laser harp irradiates vertically in front of me, and the laser beams that irradiate sideways have disappeared, so now you can see my whole body. Well, the mic stand isn't there, either. And I wondered, "What should I do in this open space now?" Well, it's okay to stand up and sing like normal, but since the audience can see me well, I came up with something like a little unique body movements, and I thought maybe I could do it a little. that's Vintage Hirasawa. Well, I wanted to borrow some movements that I used to do on stage between 1981 and 1984, long time ago. I was going to try to make the movements that wouldn't be so strange even if I do at my present age.
[50:57]
First of all, why is that era? I made my debut in 1979 [in a band called P-MODEL], but the actions of P-MODEL from 1979 to 1980 was like we did a lot of fast and comical movements. First of all, as you can see by looking at the colors of our musical instruments and the colors of our outfits at that time, there was an agreement in the band that we would move like toys, make toy-like, plastic model-like, fast movements, and we would move around all the time in the show. The concept at that time was that there used to be a manga called "Gakideka", and there were poses done by that Gakideka character, and then there was an American silly TV program called "The Three Stooges". We did basically humorous movements that were mixtures of movements like that, and we also mimicked the strange stupid walks that appeared in Monty Python show. That was what P-MODEL was like in its initial state. We had the first album and also the second album with that kind of stage actions, and...
[52:12]
In short, the album "Popourri" changed the style at once. We reorganized our fans. We've done that kind of thing because there were fans who liked it, the early P-MODEL, or misunderstood it, and it's the same as it is now, like some fans saying, "Hirasawa Kawaii[is cute]" or something. That kind of thing. And because we made such flashy movements and appeared on TV shows, the listeners who simply passed by became our fans suddenly, and they saw us in the same line as TV personalities. In order to sort out such annoyance, we released a dark kind of album for a change at that time, which was the album called "Popourri". Our music became a bit heavier, and also a member replacement took place at the same time.
A bass guitar player named Tatsuya Kikuchi joined us. His stage movements were so elegant and cool that I saw it and tried to imitate his movement concept to learn how to move like him, and we dressed like never before, using darker colors. We also made all the colors of the musical instruments in darker colors, and stopped using everything that had been red, pink, blue, yellow, and so on, and painted them in dark tones. I saw the very sophisticated, a sophisticated movement of Kikuchi, and I tried to make the similar body movements that suited his style.
I wanted to reintroduce that style of stage movements and incorporate some parts of it in my Fuji Rock show. So, I reviewed our old videos from 1981 to 1984 and remembered them, saying, "Ah, this is it. This is it!" and was planning to show that kind of body movements in "Dasshutsu-kei Ashu-On" show in Fuji Rock. There were supposed to be various tricks such as Hirasawa rotating and so on, but I regret that these surprise tricks that I had prepared for the Destroy Guitar were not performed. Well, I think there will be chances in the future to create the stage actions in that context, so I think the new body movements or posing by Hirasawa with the new laser harp will still be demonstrated in the future. Please keep that in mind.

20. Want to eliminate the effector pedals in the future
I just talked about guitar noise troubles. And I've been thinking about what to do to get rid of this guitar trouble. For example, I'm using very large and heavy effector pedals now. The big and heavy ones don't move even if you handle them roughly with your feet, and there is a lot of space between the pedals, so there is no mistake in stepping on the wrong ones. However, these pedals are big and difficult to carry, so I have tried to make them more compact once, but when I tried to make them smaller, there was a case that the space between the pedals was smaller and there were mistakes in stepping. So, I thought it may be even a mistake to sing while leaving the important tasks to my feet. While I am playing the guitar, I do the singing and operating something with my feet, and glancing at how the laser sensor works over here. There is too much information processing on the stage. I wondered how much percentage the singing occupies in that, and in fact, various information flows from the headphones, so I have to process a lot of different information.
To make my tasks fewer even a little in order to alleviate my job on stage, I want to abolish all the effector pedals at my feet, leaving everything to the computer, synchronizing it with the orchestra, and let the computer do the switching. I would be able to just play the guitar without thinking anymore. While playing the guitar, the system would automatically change the tones. But this becomes scary if the computer has a trouble or it goes out of control. I would like to take some time to think about what kind of system is possible to avoid the noise trouble like this in the first place.

21.Today's background video was taped at the Meeting with Ejin in Okinawa, directed by Ejin Ssho
Various things happened today. I had a few crises, too. The image in the background today that you are looking at, that one behind me. It was taken at the meeting with Ejins the other day, and the director of the shooting of this video was Ejin Ssho. And we followed whatever instructions he gave us while shooting. This is that, oh yeah!
[58:33]
(Hirasawa claps hands)
22. The background image at Fuji Rock created by Toshifumi Nakai
I forgot to mention the important thing. It's the video. Dasshutsu-kei Ashu-On at Fuji Rock ... Today's show is a mess. Whatever. The video that was shown behind the Dasshutsu-kei Ashu-On stage, which was very cool, was  the work of Mr. Nakai's, my graphic designer. Well, I often see the images that so-called VJs do on concert stages, even though the materials are different, they look the same and the concepts are almost the same. And there is little excitement because they are all the same. Then, when they look the same, the VJs try to surprise the audience with how many explosions they would make, or how many fill-ins they would have in the drumming, and so on. So I didn't want to have that one direction tendency in the background movies. So, I wanted something completely different, in short, I wanted the background image with the feeling of a graphic designer's. So, I asked Mr. Nakai to make wonderful images that is very cool, monochrome, though being 2-dimentional, looking 3-dimentional sometimes with depth. Every time I find a new freshness in his graphics work and say, "Oh, I've never seen something like this!", I appreciate his talent very much.

23. Concert goods, etc. that Mr. Toshifumi Nakai creates
So, I really like Mr. Nakai's designs, and I would like to carry around the goods with Mr. Nakai's designs as my personal belongings. However, for example, the bag I talked about yesterday on Twitter. There is a sticker designed by Mr. Nakai. I actually I want to put it on the new backpack I got yesterday, but then it will reveal that I am Hirasawa. If I carry that bag with the HIRASAWA sticker on it, it would be like walking around while saying "I am Hirasawa!" in a loud voice, but after all I had it all on my trunk and other belongings, and actually the home screen of my mobile phone is designed by Mr. Nakai. I also have his design for my "Lifelogger" wearable device. I also like the designs for the concert goods designed by him and I want them, too. However, It's a pity that I can only use or wear them inside the house. I say, "How can I wear it downtown even if I buy my own merchandise?" This has nothing to do with Dasshutsu-kei Ashu-On show, but I talked about the pleasure that my equipment and stage are designed by Mr. Nakai, who also designs the merchandise I love. So, today, wthough having some troubles, It's been about an hour, right? We were having a trouble starting at 8 o'clock. So, It's been about an hour [It was around 9:30PM]. Today, I have had various troubles, and I apologize for the inconvenience due to the multiple man-made disasters on our studio's side.
With that said, I would like to conclude today's Back Space Pass Dasshutsu-kei Ashu-On edition. Thank you for watching for a long time. Good bye.
